Tenor Daniel Shirley’s recent and upcoming engagements include his debut with Madison Opera in the title role of Acis and Galatea, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor with Arbor Opera Theater, Sam Polk in Susannah, Larry/Matt in The Face on the Barroom Floor with Central City Opera, and engagements with Mississippi Opera and Opera Memphis. He last sang as soloist with Music of the Baroque in December 2011.
Opera highlights include Prunier in La Rondine and Tybalt in Roméo et Juliette as a resident young artist with Florida Grand Opera, covering Gualtiero in Griselda and Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni as an apprentice artist with Santa Fe Opera, and Edgar in Frédéric Chaslin’s opera Wuthering Heights with the orchestra of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia in Valencia.
Concert engagements include Haydn’s St. Nicholas Mass with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Messiah with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and choral and symphonic organizations throughout the Midwest, Elijah with the Lafayette Bach Singers, Bach’s St. Matthew Passion and Mozart’s Mass in C Minor with the Bloomington Chamber Singers, the Mass in B Minor with the Columbus Philharmonic, and Haydn’s Creation as a guest artist of St. Joseph College in Indiana.
Daniel Shirley’s recordings include Vaughan Williams’s Ten Blake Songs with oboist Elizabeth Robertson on her album “Oboe Serenade.” He is a graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music and the Vanderbilt University Blair School of Music.
