Stephen Morscheck
BASS-BARITONE

Bass-baritone Stephen Morscheck is widely respected for signature roles such as Don Alfonso in Cosi fan tutte, Colline in La Bohème, and Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor, all of which he has recently performed with Washington Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Dallas Opera, L’Opéra de Montréal, and Kentucky Opera. Other recent roles include Rocco in Fidelio with Florentine Opera of Milwaukee, Publius in La Clemenza di Tito with Santa Fe Opera, Palemon in Thaïs with Lyric Opera of Chicago, Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Kentucky Opera, Alidoro in La Cenerentola with Lyric Opera of Kansas City and Florentine Opera, and Angelotti cover in Tosca with the Metropolitan Opera.

During the spring of 2008, Mr. Morscheck appeared in John Adams’s Amistad at Spoleto Festival USA and as soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the National Symphony Orchestra in Santo Domingo. Engagements during 2008–2009 include Bartolo in Le Nozze di Figaro with Dallas Opera and Alidoro in La Cenerentola with Orlando Opera. Highlights of recent seasons include Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with L’Opéra de Montréal, Leporello in Don Giovanni with Opera Carolina, Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro with Atlanta Opera, soloist in Bach’s St. Matthew and St. John Passions with the L’Ensemble orchestral de Paris, Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor with Arizona Opera, Handel’s Messiah with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Duke Chapel Choir, soloist in the Atlanta Opera La Belle Soirée, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater with the Berkshire Choral Festival, and Handel’s Judas Maccabeus and Purcell’s King Arthur with Music of
the Baroque.

Active as a soloist in oratorios and choral works, Mr. Morscheck has performed Mozart's Requiem and Mass in C Minor, Bach's Mass in B Minor, Magnificat, and St. Matthew Passion, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Handel’s Messiah and Judas Maccabaeus, Rossini's Stabat Mater, Haydn’s The Seasons and “Theresa” Mass, Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, Philip Glass’ The Civil Wars at Carnegie Hall and in a recording with Jessye Norman, George Crumb's Songs, Drones, and Refrains of Death, and Kurt Weill’s Der Lindbergflugh.
