Tove Dahlberg
MEZZO-SOPRANO

A native of Stockholm, Tove Dahlberg studied jazz performance at the Royal Academy of Music before completing her studies at the University College of Opera in 2002, the same year she made her début at the Royal Swedish Opera as Cherubino in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro. As member of the Vilar Young Artists Programme (2002–2004), Ms. Dahlberg made her Royal Opera House, Covent Garden début as Laura in Verdi’s Luisa Miller, where she also sang the role of Fyodor in Boris Godunov and worked with conductors such as Semyon Bychkov, Antonio Pappano, and Sir Charles Mackerras. Other opera highlights include Dorabella (Così fan tutte) for Opéra de Lyon with William Christie, a role she also performed at Chicago Opera Theater with Jane Glover; Cherubino at Opéra de Lyon (also under Christie); her Glyndebourne début as Mélisande in Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande; and her Italian début at the Maggio Musicale in Florence in the role of Fyodor, again with Semyon Bychkov.

In 2005 Ms. Dahlberg created the title role in Julie, a new opera by Philippe Boesmans based on Strindberg’s Miss Julie, for La Monnaie, Brussels and the Aix-en-Provence Festival under the baton of Kazushi Ono. In her home country Ms. Dahlberg has also performed roles written especially for her, including Lisa Stina in Jonas Forsell’s Trädgården (The Garden); Calypso, Eurykleia and Helen of Troy in Reine Jönsson’s Strändernas svall (Return to Ithaka); and the main role in Paula af Malmborg Ward’s one-act opera Vill ni ha ett frostigt päron? (Would you like a frosty pear?)

Ms. Dahlberg’s concert highlights include her Lincoln Center début at the Mostly Mozart Festival as soloist in Mozart’s Mass in C Minor under Louis Langree, a work she has also performed with the Hallé under Mark Elder; Mozart’s Davidde penitente with the Orquestra Nacional do Porto and I Pomeriggi Musicali; appearances and recordings with the Drottningholm Baroque Orchestra; and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg conducted by Emmanuel Krivine. Recently she sang the role of Mère Marie in excerpts from Les Dialogues des Carmélites under Stéphane Denève at the Edinburgh Festival; Haydn’s Harmoniemesse with Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Thierry Fisher; and Handel’s Messiah with the San Francisco Symphony. Ms. Dahlberg was also a soloist for the BBC Two production Holocaust: A Music Memorial Film from Auschwitz, which won an Emmy for Best Arts Production in 2005.
